Dowgate Digest Autumn edition

29 October 2024

The Autumn Edition of our ‘Dowgate Digest’ newsletter has just been published.

The government marked it’s first 100 days on 12th October with a long list of announcements and themes emerging. It’s been a busy 100 days, but the market has been focussing on the long awaited budget. Dire warnings of ‘difficult decisions’ and those with ‘broadest shoulders’ to bear the burden has been the mantra. We can only hope the budget turns out to be better than we’ve been led to expect. In the words of our Chairman, “at least the uncertainty will end.” “…business can recalibrate the outlook and do what business does best – take risks and create growth.” In this latest issue:

  • Despite the challenging conditions our corporate broking and advisory team have been busy on a number of transactions.
  • We welcomed 11 new joiners in the last quarter, supporting our commitment to deliver a great service for all our clients. We welcome them all.
  • Last month saw the merger of the SVS Dowgate Wealth UK New Economies Fund into the Cape Wrath Fund with a number of benefits to clients.
  • Our Q4 Outlook tries to cut through the noise of domestic and international markets and geopolitics. As global tectonic plates of uncertainty shift, the UK remains relatively calm. Unburdened by high valuations, UK equities remain attractively positioned.
  • Our Digital Transformation Conference took place, with some excellent speakers from a range of growth companies. Plenty of take-outs, but delegates left with a clear sense than the UK remains a leading force in the development of fast-growing businesses. Businesses that have the potential to harness digital transformation to deliver supernormal shareholder returns.
