Robin is an Investment Director having joined Dowgate Capital in November 2019. Born in Scotland he spent 7 years as an army officer with the Blues & Royals. For the past 30+ years he’s worked in various city roles; he led the UK’s top ranked small & mid cap sales team at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson for 8 years before leaving to launch and manage his own equity long/short hedge fund focusing on finding the best and most dynamic UK equities to invest into.
This range and depth of experience has allowed Robin to gain a wealth of knowledge to investments. Two of Robin’s key criteria for success is to make portfolios truly bespoke to each client; where active management is vitally important. This is a two fold approach; in strong economic environments his objective is to maximise the value of client portfolios; in weaker economic conditions portfolios are adapted to capital preservation. This individualistic approach has allowed Robin to strongly increase client returns over the past 20+ years through various different investment establishments.
Each business day is different for Robin and he thrives working with a very cohesive team within Dowgate who assist him in finding the next investment winners. He enjoys meeting each potential Company face to face to gain insight and perspective. Robin gets a real buzz from this; nothing gives him more pleasure than identifying the next investment winner – there have been a great many since joining Dowgate Capital!
Having been brought up in the Scottish Borders he was fortunate enough to enjoy all Country sports; from riding, fishing to all ball sports. He finds these times extremely helpful to reflect on markets as well as to formulate new ideas to maximise wealth creation for clients.
